Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently the senior correspondent
of The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also developed and is the star of the
sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, that premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born to an Malaysian Chinese couple in
Johor Bahru (Malaysia). From 1989 to 1994, Chieng lived in Manchester in New
Hampshire. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah in 2013 at an event for comedy in
Melbourne, Australia. Chieng was invited to audition for The Daily Show's
correspondent role two years later. He was named one the top 10 comics in
Variety's July 2016 issue. In October, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss
the controversy surrounding a Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was widely
viewed as racist. Chieng aired an expletive-laden criticism of the segment on
Fox News that was deemed conservative by many. He also visited New York City's
Chinatown in which Watters had made fun of residents. The viral video was
covered by the Washington Post, Slate, as well as various other outlets. Chieng
was a Singapore Sea Scout in his youth. Despite living in Australia for the
past decade, Chieng doesn't have citizenship or permanent residence status in
Australia. Chieng made an absurd joke about being cynophobic during 2018's
Daily Show. However Chieng later admitted that he is "100% not afraid of
dogs" in an interview.
