Abi Clarke
In the earlier
days (i.e. Early 2020. In the olden days comedians might have been able to
perform across the UK for a number of years prior to being invited onto a
television panel and then selling an arena tour. It's not as simple. One art
form that can still be performed live is comedy, but there's no way to expect
arena shows. One Bristol comedian has managed to find a huge worldwide audience
during lockdown via social media. Abi Clarke never set out to be an internet
star. Abi, 24, lives in Henbury and began posting videos online "to create
a network of like-minded people who could enjoy my standup comedy."
"I was doing a lot of gigs throughout the region of Devon to males in
their 50s who weren't so enthusiastic about my Love Island, Sims and Twilight
references. So I went to the internet in hopes of finding young women that were
similar to me." Abi has since been performing at Lakota Gardens as locks
have eased however, she continues to upload her videos to Instagram, Twitter
and Tik Tok (where she's recently surpassed more than 500,000 followers) In the
process, she draws inspiration from sources as varied as her job in an
establishment, a chat with a stranger or even the girl group chat. She writes
all of her ideas down on her smartphone.
